Bosue.id - The foldable phone market seems to be welcoming a new giant in the near future. Apple, which has always been known to be cautious in adopting new technologies, is reportedly accelerating its steps to launch their first foldable iPhone.

This future device, rumored to be named iPhone Ultra, is predicted to be ready to shake up the market in September 2026.

Apple's serious move is evidenced by the commencement of the production process for the most crucial component, the display. Interestingly, Apple is once again entrusting this main component supply line to its long-time competitor, Samsung Display.

Mass Production Begins in Vietnam

According to the latest reports, Samsung Display has secured its position as the main supplier for Apple's foldable OLED panels.

This decision was made after Samsung successfully achieved a very satisfactory production success rate (yield rate), reaching 80%. This figure is considered to meet Apple's notoriously strict quality control standards.

The manufacturing process for these advanced panels is reportedly underway at Samsung's factory facilities located in Vietnam.

For the initial phase in 2026, Apple is said to have ordered three million units of foldable OLED panels. This is a substantial number for a first-generation product, indicating high optimism from the Cupertino giant.

Specification Upgrade: Switching to More Superior M16 Material

One of the interesting surprises in the foldable iPhone project is a mid-project strategy change regarding display material specifications.

Initially, rumors circulating last April suggested that Apple would use Samsung's M14 series display stack. However, this strategy changed to pursue a more premium quality.

Apple decided to switch to using a much newer and more advanced luminescent material, the M16 series.

The use of this latest generation OLED panel brings several significant performance improvements to the foldable iPhone Ultra, including:

  • Maximum Brightness Level: The display will be much brighter and remain comfortable to use even under direct sunlight.

  • High Color Accuracy: The color reproduction is claimed to be more vibrant, sharp, and accurate.

  • Power Consumption Efficiency: The M16 technology is capable of saving battery usage, providing longer battery life for users.

  • Component Durability: The lifespan of the display panel will be longer, minimizing the typical risks of damage associated with foldable phones.

Thinner iPhone Panel Design with CoE Technology

Not only superior in terms of luminescent material, the OLED panel for the foldable iPhone will also integrate Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology.

This technological innovation allows the display layers to be folded much thinner while effectively reducing external light reflection.

The advantage of CoE is achieved without the need for a conventional polarizer layer, allowing the device's body to be kept slim when folded or unfolded.

On the other hand, the arrival of a foldable iPhone with this premium technology also sparks speculation about its selling price.

Amidst the ongoing global RAM and storage supply crisis, Apple CEO Tim Cook has hinted at a potential price increase for their future product lines.

Nevertheless, the presence of Samsung's most advanced foldable display technology is sure to be a highly anticipated main attraction for technology enthusiasts worldwide.
